Agartala, July 02: The leader of opposition Manik Sarkar talked tough against the ruling BJP party on Saturday and alleged of ‘vote loot’ during the recently concluded by-elections to the four assembly constituencies.
Sarkar was addressing party workers here at Agartala Paradise Chowmuhni on Saturday. The CPI-M on Saturday organized a protest demonstration against the BJP’s alleged terror tactics and poll violence.
He alleged, “The ruling party won votes by hatching terror tactics and throttling the voice of democracy. The BJP is slaughtering democracy in Tripura.”
“Despite all odd and felling prey into the BJP’s terror, a major section of people managed to cast their vote in this by-election. They were restricted many times from casting their vote starting from the day before the polling,” Sarkar alleged.
Manik Sarkar continued lambasting the BJP and alleged, “When the BJP could realize that people of this state are getting detached from the government and the party, they had to change the face of the Chief Minister, but then nothing changed and people’s distrust against BJP remained the same.”
Manik Sarkar alleged of massive poll rigging in 8-Town Bordowali assembly constituency during the by-polls, where the Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha won the poll from the seat against the opposition. “In this situation of massive poll rigging, the entire voting process turned into a farce in all the four assembly seats. The same happened in the earlier elections of Panchayat and municipal body,” he alleged.
“This is the complete failure of the ruling party, that despite being in the Centre and in the state in power, the by-elections had to be conducted,” he said.
Sarkar said, “Despite the fact that the Left failed to win one seat out of the four constituencies, Left workers are being targeted by the miscreants backed by the ruling party. Such tactics indicate that the Left is still a formidable force.”
