Agartala, May 2: The former leader of opposition and the veteran Left leader Manik Sarkar on Monday called for strengthening the opposition force across the country to dethrone the BJP from power in the ensuing 2024 Lok Sabha election.
Sarkar was addressing a party gathering here at Agartala as the party on Monday observed the International Workers’ Day also known as May Day.
Referring to the ensuing Lok Sabha Poll, Sarkar felt the necessity to dethrone the ‘fascistic’ BJP from power. He said, “There is a need to strengthen our political movement with the working class people and people of all walks of life so as to end the existing one-party rule and the fascistic ideology.”
“To dethrone the fascistic party from their misrule across the country, there is a need to disconnect them from the people of this nation who were deprived at large under the rule of fascism,” he said.
He opined stating that there is a need to get collective votes from every states of the country with the ideology of establishing a democratic and secular government in Delhi.
Referring to the assembly election held in Tripura in March this year, Manik Sarkar said, “Since the declaration of election result, the working class people were mainly targeted by the ruling party here in our state.”
Sarkar continued lambasting the BJP and said, “To destroy the sources of income and livelihood of the people, there were many incidents like destruction of rickshaws, e-rickshaws, three-wheelers and four-wheelers etc. Many motor workers were barred to ply vehicles in the scheduled routes. Huge number of rubber plantations were either burnt or cut down. In several cases, even vegetable crops were damaged, fish ponds poisoned and looted. Hundreds of shops were ransacked, looted, locked or set on fire. In many areas, the BJP workers are extorting huge amounts of money as ransom from the supporters of opposition parties. At some places, people were forced to stay in jungle out of fear.”
“The BJP started unleashing the terror tactics out of frustration because the vote share of the BJP alliance declined to 40 per cent from 51 per cent in 2018 and that too despite the hard efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah,” he added.
