Many rendered homeless as torrential rain lashes Dharmanagar

Dharmanagar, Aug 20: Many were rendered homeless, while agricultural lands were submerged under water as torrential rain has hit the Dharmanagar subdivision along with rest of the parts of the state. Areas along the India-Bangladesh border were also inundated due to the flash flood.
At least 10 families at Shib Bari area were rendered homeless, following which they had to take shelter in other part. Various low lying areas of the subdivision were submerged under water, triggering havoc among the locals. The water in Juri and Kakori river was flowing above danger level.
Reportedly, a section of local youths, who tried to approach the office of the Sub Divisional Magistrate over telephone for help, but failed, later alarmed the fire engine crews for the rescue operation. Following this the fire engine crews on Tuesday morning rushed to the flood affected areas with rescue boats from the SDM office and began the rescue operation.
Common people especially the local youths have extended their helping hand in various places to rescue the flood affected families. The areas which were mostly affected are Nayapara, Mandap Para, Jail Road, and others.
