Mayor Dipak Majumder checks flood situation in Agartala

Agartala, Aug 20: As the torrential rain has lashed out the low lying areas of the capital town of Agartala along with other parts of the state, the MLA and Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder on Tuesday took stock of the flood situation in multiple areas and said that necessary initiative was taken to shift the people and families, whose houses were submerged under water.
During his visit, Mayor Dipak Majumder informed that many places including South Ramnagar and other parts were inundated as the water level in river rose due to the incessant rain since Monday morning, while a section of people in South Ramnagar were rescued from the flood and shifted to a nearby school turned shelter house.
Initiative was also taken to distribute food items to the affected families, who are unable to cook in their kitchen due to flood water, he said, adding that the Sadar district administration is making assessment of affected areas and families ans accordingly steps will be taken to tackle the situation. The Mayor also informed that Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha is also closely monitoring the flood situation.
He also said that the government will take an appropriate action to prioritize public safety and mitigate the impact of the flooding.
The water level of the Haora river rose following the torrential rainfall, causing widespread damage in various areas of Agartala, houses were submerged under the flood water and leading to extensive damage of agricultural lands in West Tripura district. The administration and NDRF teams have already initiated rescue operations.
