Agartala March 26: Since early Wednesday morning, mid-day meal workers under the aegis of Mid-Day Meal Workers cum Helpers Association, Khowai branch have been staging a road blockade on Belfang Road in Khowai subdivision.

The protest, which began at 8 am, has drawn attention to their demand for a significant increase in their salary and allowance. Currently earning Rs 2,500, the workers are calling for this amount to be raised to Rs 18,000.

 The demonstrators argue that their current remuneration does not reflect the effort and dedication they put into their work.

They emphasize the importance of their role in ensuring the nutritional needs of children in schools, which is vital for the community's well-being. Despite their contributions, they feel undervalued and underpaid.

The protest has caused disruptions in the area, with traffic being affected on Belfang Road.

While the authorities are yet to respond to the workers' demands, the mid-day meal workers have vowed to continue their agitation until their demands are met.
