Shantirbazar, Dec 26: The state cooperative minister Sukla Charan Noatia on Thursday launched a paddy procurement programme here at Jolaibari and said that the government is working to enhance the livelihood of the farmers of the state by doubling their income.

Farmers were not given any kind of support during the previous left regime, he said, adding that the present government in Tripura has given due importance to the farmers’ production and initiated the process of procuring paddy directly from the farmers to enhance their income.

He said that both the Central and the state government has launched multifaceted schemes for the welfare of the farmers, where they get adequate assistance from the government. The government has also laid importance on using scientific methods of farming for the farmers to increase production in the state, he added.

President of the South Tripura Zilla Parishad Dipak Datta, SDM of Shantirbazar K C Gupta, Supervisor of Jolaibari Agriculture department Sridam Das, Panchayat Samiti Chairman Tapas Datta and others were present in the programme.
