MPVs places deputation to DM(West) demanding payment of pending honorarium

Agartala July 11: Having worked for the last thirteen months without any wage or remuneration a group of MPVs met in deputation with the West District DM Debapriya Bardhan pressing for the payment of pending wages at the earliest. The DM on the other, assured them to look into the matter but the MPVs who hail from far-flung areas also continue to face a number of problems in meeting their day-to-day expenses including those of bread and butter.
Reportedly in October 2020 the ruling BJP government had appointed around 250 Mahila Police Volunteers (MPV) in West Tripura district and 200 in Gomati district. Though there was no reference to salaries and honorariums of the appointees in the appointment letter but they were told to be given a fixed monthly salary of Rs 10,000. Monday the MPVs who reached to meet the DM alleged for the first five months they were paid a monthly honorarium of Rs 1,000 only and since more than thirteen months they have got neither remuneration nor honorarium. The MPVs further added they were told that the amount of honorarium was being paid from DM’s fund but this seems to have dried up following which they are not paid.
The latest example of bungling in appointment to government services under the state BJP government is positively bizarre.
The MPVs added,”We are thankful that the government has given us jobs, but despite of working we are deprived from minimum honorarium, salary is far away from our dreams”.
