National Highway Land acquisition; Evicted people yet to receive compensation, blocked road in protest

Agartala Dec 03: Locals blocked Assam-Agartala National Highway here on Saturday alleging that they were not compensated after evicted from own land for road construction.
Saturday, victims sat on a road blockade in Hadukalak area of NH 8 demanding compensation.
Reportedly, around 25 families in the area were evicted from their houses for widening of the National Highway. They were assured compensation by the administration. Based, on that assurance the victim families evicted their homes and were bound to move out. But even after 2 years, the administration allegedly did not provide a penny in the name of compensation.
“Finding no way out, we blocked the road today”, said the agitating locals.
Police of Ambassa police station and DCM reached the spot receiving the news of blockade.
Meanwhile, CPI-M State secretary Jitendra Chowdhury who was on his way to Kanchanpur came forward to talk with the agitators.
Later, Ambassa SDM Sanjit Debbarma hurried to the scene.
After long discussion the protest was lifted with the assurance of the SDM.
CPI-M state secretary Jiten Chowdhury strongly condemned the incident.
He said, “The concerned authorities have done gross injustice to the poor people here”.
He demanded the administration to immediately release the promised amount of compensation.
