Sabroom May 25: In a heart- wrenching incident, Purnendu Bikash Dutta alias Biltu, a 32- year-old youth lost his life on Friday night because of alleged negligence by a private power company, FEDCO.
As the tragedy sparked outrage among the residents of Sabroom who are demanding immediate removal of FEDCO, the power organization responsible for electricity services in the area, Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath rushed to the residence of the deceased on Saturday.
The minister visited Biltu’s grieving parents, Shubu Dutta and Preeti Dutta and offered his condolences.
Surprisingly, the power minister acknowledged the negligence of FEDCO, resulting in the death of the youth.
Wasting no time in taking prompt action, Nath visited FEDCO’s Manu Bazar Office and issued a stern warning to the concerned officials.
In his directives, the minister asked the officials to ensure proper electricity across the sub-division and specifically emphasized the urgent need to repair the hanging LT lines within the next month.
Meanwhile, the locals raised numerous allegations against the concerned power company adding that over the past three to four years, FEDCO’s service quality has been consistently subpar, with frequent delays and inadequate support.
The customers have endured this situation for far too long, and warned to stage a larger movement in the coming days.
Accompanying Minister Ratan Lal Nath were MLA Mylaphru Mog, MLA Pramod Reang, former MLA Sankar Roy among others.
