Amarpur, Dec 30: A delegation from the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited (NHPCL), Delhi recently visited the Dumboor Hydro-electric Power Project at Karbook sub-division.
The team conducted an in-depth assessment of the facility, examining operational shortcomings and collecting key information for further analysis.
The Dumboor Hydroelectric Power Project once played a significant role in meeting the state's electricity demand and earned Tripura a unique identity in the Northeast and across India.
However, the facility has faced considerable setbacks in recent years.
Karbook MLA Sanjay Manik Tripura shared that the production is no longer at its former levels. He highlighted that prolonged neglect in maintenance has rendered many components non-functional. Additionally, damage from the massive floods in August last further worsened the situation.
In response to these challenges, the MLA said he had discussions with the Managing Director of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL), urging immediate action. The MD assured him of necessary interventions, paving the way for this recent inspection by NHPC officials.
The MLA expressed hope that the NHPCL team’s visit is expected to address the issues and restore the Dumboor Hydroelectric Power Project with enhanced contribution to the state's power sector.
