Agartala, Nov 11: Minister for Social Welfare and Social Education Santana Chakma on Saturday inaugurated a two-day North East Disability Summit jointly organized by Healthy India Chronicle and Tripura University.
The programme commenced with the opening remarks of Convenor of the Summit- Amitav Joyprakash Choudhury in the MBBS auditorium of Tripura University.
The Minister in her speech elaborated the activities of Tripura Government for the support of Divyangjan in the state. She also mentioned that her department is sincerely implementing the UDID Card at grass root level under the patronage of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for empowerment of Divyangjan.
During the Summit, the Minister distributed loans of Rs. 50 lakh to the beneficiaries, 30 Handicraft Artisan Cards, Maruti Car and Neomotion Tricycles to the Divyangjans.
Vice Chancellor of Tripura University- Prof Ganga Prasad Prasain said that the Divyangjan brothers and sisters are an integrated and important part of the society and more emphasis should be given for their development.
Development Commissioner (Handicraft), Ministry of Textile, representative of National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India and Member, Tripura Scheduled Castes Co-Operative Development Corporation Ltd also addressed the summit and highlighted the scopes and schemes structured for the Divyangjans.
President of Indian Medical Association, Tripura mentioned the importance of Divyangjans and assured the effective presence of IMA in any requirement for them.
Dr. Deepak Sharma, Registrar of Tripura University encouraged such activities and the programme ended with the vote of thanks delivered by Prof Sabyasachi Dasgupta, Coordinator of North East Disability Summit and Dean of Student Welfare, Tripura University.
