Notorious drug trafficker held with Yaba worth Rs 4 cr in Tripura

In a significant success in the on-going crackdown against narcotics, the Churaibari police in North Tripura district on Sunday arrested a notorious drug peddler along with Yaba tablets worth Rs 4 crore.

The anti-narcotics operation was carried out during Naka checking at the Tripura-Assam border.

The Yaba consignment was seized from a goods-laden vehicle (bearing registration number TR05C-1755) while it was entering Tripura from Assam.

Churaibari police led by Officer-in-Charge Khokan Saha intercepted the vehicle and conducted a thorough search, during which they recovered the large cache of contraband items.

SP North Tripura Abhinash Rai, SDPO Zerin Pouiya and DCM Korzaram Reang later joined the operation as the consignment was formally seized.

The police recovered approximately 80,000 Yaba tablets packed in eight large bundles. The estimated market value of the seized narcotics is around Rs 4 crore, as confirmed by the SP North.

Sanjay Sahani (24), a resident of Ward No- 4 under East Phulbari Panchayat near Churaibari rail yard, was arrested on the spot.

According to police sources, Sahani had been involved in the drug trade for quite some time but had managed to evade arrest due to lack of concrete evidence.

His arrest has brought relief to the local residents, as he was considered a key player in the local drug network.

Speaking to the media, SP Abhinash Rai reaffirmed the police’s commitment to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s anti-drug mission, emphasizing that the administration of North Tripura remains vigilant and determined to eradicate the drug menace.

He further assured that such anti-narcotics drives will continue with full force in the coming days.
