Agartala April 24: The student wing of Congress, National Student Union of India (NSUI) on Wednesday placed a deputation to the Director, Higher Education against purported teacher shortage in the state government- run schools across the state of Tripura.
Speaking to reporters, president Tripura NSUI Swarup Kumar Sil said: “The education system is in shambles in Tripura. When students protest, goons and bike bahini terrorize them and assault the student leaders. There are not enough teachers in the school. Through various media we get reports where one teacher is taking all the classes, teachers are teaching from homes using a sound box and many more. On several occasions we have seen students coming down on the road demanding teachers, but the concerned administration seems to be in a deep sleep”.
Elaborating the five-point demands placed in the day’s deputation, he said, “Immediate recruitment drives must be held to appoint teachers in all the schools, providing incentives such as housing assistance, professional development opportunities to encourage teachers must be held, teacher training programs must be enhanced so that students receive quality education among others are our basic demands”.
Demanding a swift action with respect to the demands, NSUI state unit further questioned the state education department to clarify where the money collected from students in the name of Vidyajyoti schools is spent.
