Agartala, Feb 08: ONGC Tripura Asset has set a target to increase its natural gas production to 4 MMSCMD within a year to meet rising demand, said Chief General Manager Roopesh Kumar Sharan on Friday.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, Sharan said that at present, the company produces 3.5 MMSCMD gas, supplying major gas-based power plants, including OTPC in Gomati district.
ONGC Tripura Asset operates 95 gas-producing wells and explores 17-18 wells annually, maintaining a 50 percent success rate in line with the national average, he added.
Sharan informed that seven drilling rigs are currently deployed for gas exploration.
Addressing concerns over gas supply to OTPC’s Palatana plant, he said supply has been enhanced. However, power generation at the 726 MW plant has dropped to 400 MW due to certain factors, with 100 MW being exported to Bangladesh.
On the IndraDhanush Gas Grid (IGGL) project, Sharan said Tripura is expected to be connected by September next year, ensuring a stable gas supply for power and industrial needs.
