Kailashahar, Nov 12: The locals of Kailashahar on Tuesday alleged that the Unakoti District Hospital has been without a paediatric specialist for the past three days, despite the position being officially filled. This has left many parents from across the district in a state of uncertainty, especially those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds who have no choice but to rely on the public healthcare system.

Parents alleged that sick children are reporting long waits, with some being forced to seek care from general practitioners, who are not equipped to handle paediatric cases. Meanwhile, families who can afford private treatment are opting to go elsewhere. The hospital’s children's ward has been described as chaotic, with the sounds of crying children filling the air, while parents anxiously await the return of a paediatric doctor.

When contacted, hospital officials indicated that the Medical Superintendent is on personal leave, but no other staff member has offered an explanation for the absence of the paediatric specialist. Locals are expressing frustration over the lack of accountability and the serious consequences for children’s health.
