Agartala, Aug 30: The three-tier Panchayati Raj system plays a crucial role in bolstering the rural economy, Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said on Friday.

He highlighted the significance of Panchayat representatives in improving the livelihoods of rural communities and enhancing the infrastructure.

Chowdhury was speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected members of the Jirania Panchayat Samiti, held at the Jirania Block Office premises on Friday.

During the event, Chowdhury welcomed the newly elected members, along with the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the Jirania Panchayat Samiti.

He remarked that with their oath-taking, a new rural governance structure has been established in the Jirania block. The minister expressed his hope that the newly formed Panchayat Samiti would work to fulfil the expectations of the people.

Pritam Debnath took the oath as the chairperson of the Jirania Panchayat Samiti, while Rupali Das was sworn in as the vice-chairperson. Deputy Collector Nabakumar Jamatia administered the oath in presence of other dignitaries.
