Agartala July 16: Situation of teachers’ crisis in state once again came into limelight. Saturday, parents blocked road protesting against transfer of a dynamic teacher amid heavy teacher crisis. Parents further raised demand of recruitment of at least nine new teachers in Umakanta Bengali Medium School in the heart of Capital City Agartala.
CM Dr Manik Saha’s vehicle had to change its route to Secretariat on Saturday as students’ parents of Umakanta Bengali Medium School have blocked the road in protest against a teacher’s transfer. According to the agitating guardians, the Umakanta Bengali Medium school has only nine teachers and at least more nine teachers are needed to cover up the gap.
Guardians said often two classes are clubbed due to shortage of teachers. In this condition the most active teacher Jhalak Dey’s transfer is unacceptable, said the parents.
Agitating mother of Umakanta Bengali Medium School student said, “Not only Jhalak Sir, but no teacher should be transferred instead the school needs additional nine teachers. Jhalak sir is managing everything and students also obey him. Without him the school will perish”.
Police personnel tried to console the angry guardians but the agitators refused to lift the blockade and continued the protest.
Giving an ultimatum of 1 day, the parents lifted the blockade with a warning to go for larger movement if teacher Jhalak Dey’s transfer to Dharmanagar is not repealed.
The parents later placed a deputation to the Director of Secondary Education, Chandni Charan at the Sikhsha Bhavan, Agartala. The Director assured the guardians to look into the matter and stayed the transfer of teacher Jhalak Dey for next 10 days.
