Passive BJP giving mileage to Tipra Motha
Teliamura, Nov 20, 2022, TRIPURATIMES Desk
Teliamura Nov 20: Pradyot Kishore Debbarma-led Tipra Motha is readying up for the upcoming Assembly polls. Party workers are relentlessly working to extend the winning streak in the Assembly polls. In the Teliamura sub-division, Tipra Motha supporters are active and conducting political exercises. A good number of supporters from the sub-division attended the mass gathering in Agartala, party sources claimed.
However, what is baffling many people that why the ruling BJP is playing a passive role in politically countering Tipra Motha – nevertheless, Tipra Motha leaders are not sparing a chance to criticize the BJP-led Central and State governments on multiple issues.
All the ruling party leaders are busy in firing verbal salvos at CPM and Congress – but, remain silent on Tipra Motha.
“In 2018 Assembly polls, it was ‘Tipra Land’ demand that pulled the indigenous votes in favour of BJP-IPFT. And, this year, it is ‘Greater Tipra land’ demand. The ruling party leaders – including the Janajati leaders - are mum on this demand. Interesting it may sound, ruling party leaders coin ‘Lal Motha’ in case they need to criticise Tipra Motha .
Take the example of BJP’s press meet after its ST Morcha National president Samir Oraon and other Janajati leaders were attacked and their cars were vandalised. BJP leaders blamed Tipra Motha for this attack – but underlined that it was actually an act of Lal Motha”, Teliamura-based political analysts commented.
The concept of Lal Motha is not unrealistic – or completely imaginary. It needs to keep in mind that while CPM and Congress are on the receiving end of BJP’s aggression, Tipra Motha appears to be enjoying an upper hand in Hills and adjoining areas. This is providing a chance for the anti-BJP forces – CPM and Congress – to take refuse in Tipra Motha.
According to local political pundits, BJP’s reluctance to take on Tipra Motha politically is helping anti-BJP forces directly and making the battle in the indigenous-dominated seat for itself.
