Agartala Sept 30: A total of 122 voters from 26 families from Durganagar Gram Panchayat under Mandai assembly seat and 7 voters from one family in Khayerpur joined the Congress party on Monday.
The new members were welcomed with the party flag by MLA Sudip Roy Burman. TPCC Secretary Tapan Das, District president Tanmoy Roy, Youth Leader Md Sahajan Islam and Congress leader Manoranjan Debnath were also present at the meeting to mark the occasion.
Addressing the reporters, Sudip Roy Barman sharply criticized the ruling government led by Bharatiya Janata Party for ‘launching attacks on the opposition party workers and leaders’.
He said, “Congress activists who went to place deputation to the Mohanpur SDM regarding post-flood situation issues that need urgent attention were all of a sudden attacked by BJP-backed miscreants. Many of them are presently undergoing treatment at the IGM Hospital. Similar attacks were conducted on Congress activists in other places”.
“Democracy is under complete threat in the state. There is no law and order. On raising voice against the atrocities and issues related to public interest, the BJP hooligans are launching attacks”, he alleged.
“People are deprived of basic amenities, in all ways they are spending days in hardship, but there is no one to hear their cry”, said Roy Barman.
Barman claimed that being frustrated with the ‘fascist party’ which is running the state government and to join in protest against its ‘misrule’ and ‘misgovernance’, people are leaving BJP and joining the Congress.
