Post result violence: Cong teams visit K’pur, Belonia

Agartala, Jun 28: In a whirlwind tour, Congress leaders visited the Kalyanpur and Belonia on Wednesday in the wake of arson and violence after the results of by-polls were announced on June 26 last.
A team led by former MLA Asish Saha inspected the Congress Office which was set on fire. The team also visited the house of Suman Modak who was attacked by miscreants and extended moral support to Modak and his family.
He said Congress does to support politics of violence, however, the way democracy is being throttled, we have to be united to resist such acts.
“It is important to strengthen the block level organization. All of us need to be united and work hard to defeat the attempt to destroy democracy”, Saha said and appealed to the Congress supporters to work hard for the 2023 Assembly polls.
Asish Saha along with other leaders also met the OC of Kalyanpur PS Subharangshu Bhattacharjee and a case was lodged there on behalf of the Youth Congress.
Meantime a four-member Congress team went to visit Belonia where Congress Bhawan was set afire and president of the Block Congress, Tamal Dhar was attacked. General secretary of Pradesh Congress Partha Sarkar, chairman of Minority Committee Jaidul Hussain and other members were part of the visiting team. They met the OC of Belonia PS and demanded stern action against the culprits.
