Agartala/ Kailashahar, Apr 30: The electricity service is yet to be restored in around 70 locations of Kailashahar under Unakoti district.
The power service was badly disrupted due to storms on the intervening night of April 26 and 27. After protests from the people, the electricity supply was restored in some parts on the night of April 29.
With the joint initiatives of DM Unakoti D.K. Chakma and SDM Kailashahar Pradip Sarkar, the power supply could be restored in some places. But there was no role in the part of Sai Computer Limited, an outsourced company.
The hailstorm had caused severe damages to the power service—several electric poles were uprooted, electric wires were snapped and several transformers went out of order. Besides, several houses and farm lands suffered damages.
Meanwhile, on behalf of the Sai Computer a report was sent to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha at 3 pm on April 29 stating that the power service was fully restored in Kailashahar. When the Chief Minister talked to minister Tinku Roy, he found that the report was not true.
The Chief Minister then asked Roy to collect a ground report.
As directed by Dr. Saha, the minister on Tuesday inspected the affected areas and interacted with the people. He also held a meeting with the officials of power and drinking water departments.
Chairperson of Kailashahar municipal council Chapala Rani Debroy, vice-chairperson Nitish Dey, vice-chairman of Chandipur Panchayat Samiti Sandip Kurmi, chairman of Gournagar Panchayat Samiti Naran Singhha, vice-chairman Shiv Sankar Adhikary and other local representatives were present in the meeting.
Deputy general manager of Sai Computer Harindar Sharma, project manager Suraj Srivastav and engineer Ajoy Kumar were also present.
In the meeting, Minister Tinku Roy expressed strong resentment as a wrong report was sent to the Chief Minister. During the meeting, Power minister Ratanlal Nath had telephonic discussions with Roy.
Later speaking to the media, Roy assured that the power service would be restored across Kailashahar sub-division by May 1. The problem was already solved in various locations till the last information came in.
