Agartala, Aug 18: The medical fraternity, several social organizations and people from various walks of life continued to protest across Tripura on Sunday, seeking justice for a trainee doctor, who was raped and killed in R.G. Kar hospital, Kolkata.
The students hit the streets of the capital town- Agartala against the brutal rape and murder of the junior doctor.
A candlelight protest against violence on women was organized at College Tilla, Lake Side, by Fitness Explosion Gym in collaboration with Lions Club of Agartala Anish and Hub of Fitness Gym.
The event saw active participation from local residents, who united in a peaceful demonstration to demand enhanced safety and security for women in the region.
The protest, which drew a substantial crowd, emphasized the urgent need for society to recognize the collective responsibility of protecting women.
Participants carried placards with messages advocating for women's safety and chanted slogans urging authorities to take stronger measures against gender-based violence. They urged justice for rape victims and a safe society for everyone.
The organizers, including the Fitness Explosion Gym, Lions Club of Agartala Anish, and Hub of Fitness Gym, expressed their concerns about the rising incidents of violence against women.
They highlighted that while individual efforts are essential, the protection of women should be seen as a shared responsibility involving every community member.
"We are here today to raise our voices against the violence that women in our society continue to face. It is not just a women's issue; it is a human issue. Every one of us has a role to play in ensuring that women feel safe and secure in their homes, workplaces, and public spaces," said one of the organizers.
The protest at College Tilla, Lake side, was marked by its peaceful nature, with participants calling for justice and more robust legal frameworks to prevent violence against women.
The event concluded with a pledge by all attendees to continue their efforts in raising awareness and advocating for the rights and safety of women.
The women wing of the opposition Congress party walked on a candle march on Sunday evening and raised voice against the incident in West Bengal.
The women congress activists condemned the incident and sought justice for the victim junior doctor and her family. The agitators said that they will continue their movement unless safety is ensured for the women.

The agitating students demanded justice to the victim and family members at the earliest and also demanded to ensure a safe environment for women at workplaces.
On the other hand, youths including children had hit the streets of Agartala on Sunday and pressed for introduction of prevention of sexual harassment for women at workplaces in all government offices and organisations, defence training programme for children in schools and colleges and others. The agitators demanded immediate justice to the victim and family members and condemned the incident.
In Teliamura, the members of Bullet Club, joined by other walks of life protested the incident and walked on a candle march. Speaking on this matter, Club Secretary Partha Sarathi Roy said that he appealed to the government to be more responsible in order to prevent this kind of heinous incident. He demanded for stringent punishment for the accused persons involved in the incident.

Our Churaibari correspondent adds: A candle march and protest was held at Churaibari on Sunday to protest against crimes against women and demand justice for the rape and death of a medical student at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in West Bengal.
The rally, organized by local youth and students, took place near Churaibari railway station on Sunday evening. Protesters expressed their deep concern over the safety of women in India and condemned the incident as a shame for the nation.
