Railway Division Demand & Development Committee demands Dharmanagar-Bangladesh rail connectivity

Dharmanagar, Oct 15: The Dharmanagar Railway Division Demand & Development Committee on Sunday reiterated their demand for establishment of railway division in Dharmanagar sub-division of North Tripura district and pressed for their 7-point charter of demands with the government.
Addressing a press conference here at Dharmanagar Press Club on Sunday, the advisor to the committee and former BJP president Ranajoy Deb expressed his concern over the role of the government in establishment of railway division in Dharmanagar and said that they have been pressing for their demand since 2013, when the BJP leadership in the state and in the centre supported their demand and in later course of time till 2018 assembly election in Tripura the BJP leaders including the then Union Minister Manoj Sinha and Sunil Deodhar had prioritised the demand and announced for establishing railway division in Dharmanagar if voted to power in Tripura.
But, since then no initiative was taken so far by the government, following which the committee intensified their agitation, he told reporters.
He said that the 7-point charter of demand of the committee includes – railway division in Dharmanagar, completion of the work on laying rail track connecting Dharmanagar with Agartala via Kailasahar, Kamalpur and Khowai, establishment of rail connectivity between Dharmanagar and Jampui via Kanchanpur, connecting Dharmanagar with Bangladesh, operation of rail service between Dharmanagar and Sabroom, additional rail service from Dharmanagar to Agartala and others.
He said that the MP for East and West Tripura constituency Rebati Tripura and Pratima Bhoumik was also apprised of their demand, but no effective action has been seen so far in its implementation.
The committee has planned to meet the Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha after the Durga Puja festival to seek his intervention on implementation of their demand, he said, adding that based on the circumstances, the committee will plan to intensify their agitation further if required.
