Agartala March 22: As per previous announcement and principle of the I.N.D.I.A bloc, the CPI-M and Congress jointly campaigned in support of CPI-M candidate Ratan Das for Ramnagar assembly bypolls.
Along with the crucial Lok Sabha elections scheduled to be held in two phases in Tripura, the by-elections to the vacant Ramnagar seat will also be held on April 19, the day of polls for the West Parliamentary seat as well.
As per seat sharing agreement and principle of the I.N.D.I.A bloc, the Congress did not put up any candidate to contest the Ramnagar assembly bypolls instead joined hands in support of the CPI-M nominated candidate, ex-MLA Ratan Das.
Meanwhile, the CPI-M also did not put up a candidate for the West Tripura Lok Sabha seat and will be supporting Congress candidate Asish Kumar Saha.
Friday, leaders of both CPI-M and Congress marched the streets of the capital city as Ratan Das submitted his nomination papers to the Returning Officer Bipul Das, Addl. Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Sadar for Ramnagar bypolls.
CPIM MLA and State Secretary Jiten Choudhury, Pabitra Kar and others along with State Congress president Asish Kumar Saha, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman led the rally backed by a large number of supporters of both the parties urging people to vote for Ratan Das.
Speaking to the reporters from the rally, CPI-M candidate for Ramnagar bypolls, Ratan Das said, “These elections, Lok Sabha as well as by-election in Ramnagar seat are crucial as it is the only way to get rid of the BJP that has destroyed the state as well as the country”.
Das also urged the common people to vote for Congress candidate Asish Kumar Saha in the West Tripura Lok Sabha seat.
Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman claimed that if the election is free and fair, the BJP will lose both the Lok Sabha seats in Tripura and will also be defeated in the Ramnagar bypolls, as the party ‘Didn’t pay any respect to the sentiments of the people and core party workers during selection of candidates’.
CPIM MLA and State Secretary Jiten Choudhury also voiced in favor of the I.N.D.I.A bloc and urged the voters to help ‘the alliance in ousting the BJP from power’.
