Agartala Jan 02: Demanding safety and security of the minority Muslim families residing in Madhya Raiabari in Udaipur’s Killa area under Gomati district, members of nine social organizations jointly placed deputation to the Director General of Police at the Police Headquarters in capital city on Tuesday.
Speaking to the reporters in this context, the leaders of the delegation detailed the atrocities faced by the minority families in Raiabari.
“Around 17 Muslim families in Madhya Raiabari of Udaipur Killa have been suffering from extreme insecurity for a long time”, he said.
The members of the delegation said, “Since May 2023, brutal attacks through various means have been carried out on them. Even the families were forcefully evicted from their homes and lands in the name of religious differences. The last attack on the minority families was on December 23, 2023. Miscreants set the houses on fire, damaging various crops including rubber plantations. Several villagers including a helpless woman were injured in the attack”.
Moreover, when the fire brigade came to douse the fire, the miscreants did not allow the firefighters to enter the area.
When the villagers were screaming for help, police personnel stood still at the spot playing the role of silent spectators, alleged the members of the delegation.
Voicing for the protection of those minority families, the demands raised from the joint platform include; safety of life and property of the minority families in Raiabari, resolve of land dispute and rehabilitation of the families on the same land on which they are living at present or identify a suitable alternative land for permanent resettlement.
Members of Tripura Minority Development Council, Manipuri Students Youth Coordination Committee, Tripura Tapshili Jati Sangram Parishad, Peoples’ Movement for Tribal Rights, Tripura Mahila Sangram Parishad among others remained present in the day’s program.
