Agartala Jan 25: Representatives of local Cable TV News Channels of Tripura met the District Magistrate and Collector, West Tripura on Wednesday demanding immediate restoration of broadcasting.
Alleging of being targets under ruling BJP-led government in the state, one of the members in the delegation said, “Since the onset of BJP-led government in Tripura, several electronic news channels have been one-sidedly disconnected and abruptly barred from telecasting on behalf of the local Cable Operators Srishti, Hathaway, GTPL, City Cables etc.”.
“We, the representatives of under mentioned local Cable TV News Channels of Agartala would like to draw your kind attention regarding the one-sided, malicious and illegal disconnection of our Channels and stopping telecast abruptly on behalf of the local Cable Operators short-named as Srishti, Hathaway, GTPL, City Cables. We heard about an institutionalized, undemocratic and continuous corrupt political power pressure behind this unfortunate episode of events”, the memorandum reads.
Asserting financial losses due to disconnection for long 5 years, the representatives of local news channels namely; PB24, Channel Din Raat, Akash Tripura, Syandan TV, Mrinalini ENN, Hallabol, Awaaz, demanded immediate necessary action for restoration of broadcasting through Cable networks in operation so that the viewers can be provided with important news items especially during the times of assembly elections in the state.
“We, earnestly request you to take immediate necessary action to pave the way for reconnection of our News Channels through the cable networks in operation so that our viewers and subscribers can stay with us on their TV screen for 24/7 basis”, it further read.
