Santirbazar Sept 04: A tragic road accident on Wednesday morning resulted in the death of one person while six others were injured.

Reportedly, a cargo rickshaw, bearing registration number TR 08 D 1639 lost control and crashed in the area adjacent to Shantiniketan Para in Jolaibari.

The deceased, identified as Sankar Dutta (27) from Shyamsunder Para, died on the spot.

The injured individuals, who were passengers in the vehicle, include Bijoy Majumder (41) from Shyamsunder Para, Ashish Sarkar (43) from Shantiniketan Para, Keshab Debnath (37) from Mahamuni Tila, Sambhu Muhuri (39) from Sagardhepa, Samir Biswas (42) from Shyamsunder Para, and Shankar Majumdar (45) from Sanchirambari.

Following the accident, the injured were initially taken to Jolaibari Social Health Centre. Due to the severity of their injuries, they were subsequently referred to Santirbazar District Hospital for further treatment.

According to the injured vehicle driver, “The incident occurred when the auto, en route from Jolaibari to Muhuripur, collided with a dog while crossing the area adjacent to Santiniketan Para”.

The body of the deceased was handed over to his family after an autopsy at the Jolaibari SHC while a post-mortem of the deceased dog involved in the accident was also conducted at the local veterinary hospital.
