Agartala, Sept 08: Tripura recorded 3,660 road accidents in which 1,340 persons died and 3,734 individuals were injured over the past six years, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said on Sunday.
He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating a Road Safety event at Swami Vivekananda Maidan in Agartala.
He said, presently, the number of registered vehicles in Tripura is 7,87,203. Among them, 5,57,000 are two wheelers.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister also highlighted the state government's various initiatives including to prevent road accidents.
The Chief Minister said everyone should obey the traffic rules to ensure road safety. He also urged all concerned to drive slow and avoid driving in intoxicated condition and not to use mobile phone while driving.
The Transport Department organized the event to raise awareness about road safety.
During the event, the Chief Minister flagged off 16 new vehicles that will spread the message of road safety across different parts of the state.
Additionally, the Chief Minister participated in distributing helmets to journalists, launching a driving training program for women, and unveiling two booklets related to road safety.
The event was attended by the Transport minister Sushanta Chowdhury, MLA Dipak Majumder, Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan, and other dignitaries.
