Gandacherra, May 10: Hundreds of people living in Lakshmipur and adjacent villages are now happy as the state government fulfilled their long-standing demand for renovation of a road.
The 1-km road from Hospital Chowmuhani to Lakshmipur in Gandacherra was lying in a miserable condition for years. The villagers had staged protests multiple times to get the road renovated but there was no response from the previous Left Front government. Some of the villagers were seen planting paddy seedlings in the muddy road during the rainy spell.
Finally, after the formation of the new government in 2018, an initiative was taken to renovate the road fulfilling the long-standing demand of the people living in Lakshmipur and adjacent areas. The tender was also called. But the process got stalled midway and the tender was called again by the PWD.
The contractor assigned for the work maintained the quality of the construction and completed the project within the stipulated time. Now, hundreds of villagers from Lakshmipur, 36 card, Halud Jhari, Ranga Jhari, Haripur and Tilla Bari can easily move through the road and reach the market. The days when the students used to go to school by walking on muddy roads are past now.
The renovation of the road has visibly brought significant relief and convenience to the villagers, especially in terms of transportation and access to essential places like schools and markets.
“We had to suffer beyond words due to the poor condition of the road for years. As the present government fulfilled its promise by giving a new shape to the road, now we can send our children to schools easily; we can move to market without any problem. We are happy and thankful to the government,” a villager said while expressing her gratitude to the present state government.
The contractor, who implemented the renovation works, also thanked the villagers for their cooperation in implementing the project.
