Agartala, Feb 12: Tripura government will maintain 'Status Quo' regarding Roman script for Kokborok in board examination, a minister said on Monday.
The statement came in the wake of a bandh called by the students' wing of Tipra Motha.
Addressing a press conference at the Secretariat, Minister for Tourism Sushanta Chowdhury said, the TBSE examination would be conducted in the same manner as conducted under the Tripura Board of Secondary Education in Bengali and Roman scripts. The minister also urged the TSF leaders to call off the indefinite strike.
In the press conference, the minister said that every political party has the right to call bandh in democratic setup.
However, he said, it is not right to create problems for common people in this way. Hence, the state government has decided that the 'Status Quo' would be maintained.
The Chief Minister had already written a letter to the CBSE chairman but there was no response so far. So the state government is yet to take any decision regarding the CBSE board exams.
In the press conference, the minister also said that the statistics of the last few years show that the number of students participating in the examination in Roman script is less than 2 percent.
