Amarpur, June 18: Students of a remote, under-resourced school in Gomati district of Tripura have achieved remarkable success in this year's Board examinations.
Despite not having required infrastructure and a single Post-Graduate Teacher (PGT), the students of Hazachari Higher Secondary School, located at a remote corner of Karbook sub-division, have managed to achieve a 100 percent pass rate in both the Higher Secondary and Madhyamik examinations conducted by the Tripura Board of Secondary Education.
The results of Madhyamik and Higher Secondary for the 2024 academic year were announced by the TBSE recently. While poor results of many schools in the state raised concerns among the guardians, the performance of students from Hazachari Higher Secondary School stood different. All students from this school who appeared in the Board examinations have passed while many of them secured remarkable results.
In the 2024 academic year, a total of 50 students appeared for the Madhyamik examination from Hazachari High Secondary School. Among them, 18 secured first division and 32 secured second division. This year, the school's first batch of 19 Higher Secondary candidates also achieved 100 percent pass rate, with 3 securing first division, 9 securing second division, and the remaining 7 securing third division.
Established in 1952, the school has faced numerous challenges since its inception. Despite being upgraded from a Secondary to a Higher Secondary school in 2022, it has struggled with a shortage of teachers.
Initially, the school had 22 teachers, but after several transfers, only 14 teachers, including the headmaster Doang Mog, remain posted. This number is significantly lower compared to the total number of students.
According to regulations, classes for 11th and 12th grades in higher secondary schools should be conducted by PGTs. However, Hazachari High Secondary School is yet to receive a single PGT from the Education department. Consequently, Graduate Teachers (GTs) have been handling the senior classes. Despite this, the school achieved a 100 percent pass rate in higher secondary examinations.
Parents attribute this success to the dedicated efforts of the teachers and the effective leadership of the Headmaster. They believe that the students from poor families have been able to achieve such good results due to the sincere efforts the teachers.
