Kalyanpur, Feb 6: To mark the 10th anniversary of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme, a seminar was held at the Lotus Community Hall in Kalyanpur on Thursday.

Kalyanpur MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury inaugurated the programme organised by District Child Protection Unit.

Khowai Additional District Magistrate Sumit Pandey, Teliamura Additional Sub-Divisional Magistrate Apurba Krishna Chakraborty and Director of Social Education and Welfare Department Tapan Kumar Das also attended the programme. 

As part of seminar, teachers and girl students from various schools took part in discussion focusing on the role of Balika Manch and school committees in preventing child marriage and promoting girls’ education.

Addressing the gathering, MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury emphasized that child marriage is a serious social issue caused mainly by a lack of awareness among parents. 

He proposed regular teacher-parent meetings every three months to address this problem. He also highlighted the importance of teachers in raising awareness and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts in ensuring women’s safety.

Tapan Kumar Das cited the example of Jotsna Akhtar from South Tripura, who stopped her own child marriage and later received the President’s Award. 

As part of the campaign, an awareness vehicle was also launched to spread the message across the district.
