SFI, TSU to start month-long agitation from Nov 25

Agartala, Nov 20: The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) state committee jointly with the Tripura Students’ Union (TSU) Sunday announced to go for month-long agitation from November 25 next.
Addressing a press conference here at Agartala on Sunday the SFI state secretary Sandipan Deb said, “The movement is to press for six points charter of demands with the government. We shall begin the movement involving students from November 25 and it will last till December 26.”
“The demand includes adequate teachers in schools and colleges of the state, ensuring safety and security for children, women and students, employment as per eligibility, students’ council election, terror and drug-free Tripura and reduction of fee in government and private colleges,” he said, adding that with all the demands the SFI and TSU will place a deputation with the DMs and SDMS across the state during the month-long agitation.
The SFI leader slammed the government on Sunday and alleged, “At a time when the state is reeling under a very complex situation, the crime rate against women and students has increased under the rule of this anarchical rule of BJP government in Tripura.” He said that to protests against the increasing crime rate against women the SFI and TSU will hold students, movement here at Agartala on November 27 next.
Deb informed that a total of 23 representatives from the SFI and TSU will join the SFI’s All India Conference at Hyderabad starting from December 13 till December 17 next.
He however expressed concern over the fee hike in Tripura Medical College and said, “The BJP government has hiked the fee for medical studies in the TMC. The fee was Rs. 22 lakhs before 2018, which has grown high up to Ra. 69 lakh for medical courses in the college. This perhaps has out huge burden on the students desiring for medical studies in our state.”
He demanded the government to reduce fee structure in the TMC so as to entertain more desiring students for medical studies.
