Smuggling on the rise: B’desh youth shot dead

Boxanagar, Apr 22: A Bangladeshi youth died after he suffered bullet injuries during a smuggling attempt along India-Bangladesh border at Putiya of Kalamchaura under Sepahijala district on Monday morning.
Sources in the BSF confirmed the death of the Bangladesh youth. The incident triggered a sensation among the local villagers.
The youth- Mohammad Hassan (30), reportedly, was on a move to smuggle sugar and other items to Bangladesh in between the border gate number 144 and 145 early on Monday morning.
When the matter came to the notice of the BSF personnel on duty, they tried to stop the youth. But, the youth didn’t pay any attention. As the BSF opened fire, the youth suffered injuries. After the incident, the people residing along the border on the Bangladesh side took the youth away and reportedly shifted him to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead.
According to sources, smuggling of cattle and various other items including sugar through the India-Bangladesh border at Putiya is on the rise. A racket of smugglers, mostly local people, is involved in this illegal practice.
