Agartala Dec 31: Novelist and short story writer Sourav Chakraborty has been selected to receive the prestigious Sumitra Kar Young Writer Award for 2025. Tripura's leading publishing house, Niharika, announced this decision, on the first day of the new year.
Sourav Chakraborty, a student of Umakanta Academy in Agartala, began his literary journey with the academy's Dewal Patrika in 2002. Over time, he transitioned to editing, serving as the co-editor of the traditional Academy Magazine. His stint in group theatre led him to the editorial role in the renowned Blackboard magazine. He later contributed to various newspapers in Tripura for over seven years. His first story, published in West Bengal's Kishore Bharati magazine, marked the beginning of his extensive writing career. He has since written numerous stories and columns for all the notable newspapers of Bengali literature in Tripura.
To date, Sourav has authored several books, including; Golper Chadmabesh, Chandrahrash, Debi Rakshas, Udbhav Linga, Paap, Mritkaitav, Kolkata Kasaikhana, etc.
The eagerly awaited novels Chandrahas 3 and Mritkaitav 3 are scheduled to be released at the Kolkata International Book Fair in 2025.
Since 2019, Niharika Publishers and the Sumitra Kar Young Writers Award Committee have jointly presented this award to promising poets, writers, or researchers from Tripura, under the age of 40. Previous recipients of this award include Chirasree Debnath (2019), Jyotirmoy Das (2020), Abhijit Chakraborty (2021), Payal Dev (2022), Lincoln Murasingh (2023), and Sebika Dhar (2024).
Sourav Chakraborty's recognition with this esteemed award highlights his significant contributions to Bengali literature and his promising future as a writer.
