Agartala, Nov 20: A delegation from South Tripura general public submitted a formal deputation to the Chief Minister, Dr. Manik Saha urging for the stoppage of all express trains at Belonia Railway Station, emphasizing the station’s strategic importance for the region. The request comes after the recent announcement to extend the Sealdah-Agartala Kanchanjunga Express up to Sabroom, which the delegation welcomed, as it will benefit the people of Sabroom and its surrounding areas.
In their petition, the delegation highlighted Belonia as one of the oldest towns in the state, with historical significance dating back to the Manikya era. Belonia has been a key railway hub for passengers, especially with the connectivity provided by the North East Frontier Railway, including the trains running from Agartala to Sabroom. The station serves commuters from numerous areas within South Tripura and even parts of adjacent districts, handling large crowds daily.
Given its geopolitical importance, the delegation has requested the Chief Minister to take up the matter with railway authorities to ensure all express trains stop at Belonia, which would greatly benefit the local population and enhance regional connectivity. A member from the delegation team stated that Dr. Saha has assured them that he will talk to the central ministry regarding the issue and a solution would be brought soon.
