Agartala, Sep 04: Students from various colleges across Tripura blocked the road in front of Tripura University on Wednesday to stage protest against alleged irregularities in the mark-sheets of about 60 percent of first-semester students in several subjects.
According to the students, they performed well in the exams held a few months ago and were allowed to proceed with their second-semester curriculum.
Some colleges had even conducted internal tests for the second semester. However, when the first-semester results were released, many students found their names on the failure lists for several subjects, with some facing semester backlogs.
They also alleged that their college names were incorrectly listed on the mark-sheets and questioned the University’s examination department for awarding zero marks in a few subjects to several students.
Angered by these developments, the students gathered in front of the University and blocked the National Highway.
The road blockade which lasted for 3-4 hours caused significant traffic disruption. Although the road was eventually cleared, students continued their protest at the university gate, demanding that all students be passed.
They warned that their agitation would intensify if their demands were not met.
