Dharmanagar, July 31: The opposition Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman on Wednesday campaigned for the party candidates at Dhupirband Gram Panchayat in Dharmanagar for the upcoming three tier panchayat elections and had hit out at the ruling BJP to allege that the elections in Tripura are being turned into farce.
Barman was accompanied by party secretary Chayan Bhattacharya, Joint Secretary, Advocate Indrajit Pal, senior Congress leader Kebal Kanti Nandi and retired police person Suranjan Nath.
During the campaign, Barman lashed out at the BJP and alleged that the state of Tripura is reeling under an odd situation, where the ruling party like other elections are turning the upcoming panchayat elections into farce.
He kept on targeting the BJP and further alleged that a major section of opposition candidates was restricted from submitting their nomination paper and contest in the election. The BJP goons were found to be threatening the family members of the opposition candidates of dire consequences, he added.
Ending the campaign for his party candidates, Barman went to the Chandpur area of Shani Ram and held a meeting at Kadamtala Mukta Manch on Wednesday evening.
