Agartala, Jun 17: Rajya Sabha MP and Tripura Pradesh Trinamool Congress Core Committee Member Sushmita Dev on Thursday submitted a memorandum to the DG of Tripura Police through SP Dhalai demanding necessary action against attackers.
She demanded necessary action against attackers of Chankap Bazar in Surma Assembly Constituency in which four persons, including one minor were injured allegedly by BJP-backed goons.
Requesting DG’s intervention, the AITC MP wrote in the memorandum, “…..heinous political violence that has taken place on the 15th of June, 2022 in Chankap Bazar, Surma AC. 70 families joined the Tripura Pradesh Trinamool Congress, and were subjected to a brutal attack by miscreants patronized by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Four persons, including one minor, have faced grievous injuries…..”
Dev questioned the role of police as 12 hours have elapse of the incident but no arrests have made so far. Although the culprits can be identified by several eyewitnesses, she claimed.
“We wish to ask why no action has been taken by the police, even though 12 hours have passed since the incident? No arrests have been made yet, although the culprits can be identified by several eyewitnesses,” the memorandum reads.
She urged the police to arrest the goons responsible for this attack, at the earliest. She alleged that the BJP was continuously inciting politically motivated violence against TMC party workers, and obstructing the party election campaign in Tripura.
“The BJP has been continuously perpetrating instances of politically motivated violence against our party workers, and has been impeding Tripura Pradesh Trinamool Congress’ electoral campaign.” Dev wrote.
She also wrote, “We have also written to the State Election Commission thrice before, stating the need for free and fair election process, and urge the former to take cognizance of this attack as well.” She expressed hope that the DG of Tripura Police would take all action necessary at the earliest.
