Teacher harassment on train: Tripura Mahila Congress president condemns incident

Agartala, Jan 28: Tripura Mahila Congress president Sarbani Ghosh Chakraborty strongly condemned the alleged harassment of a teacher and two students during a train journey.
Addressing a press conference in Agartala on Tuesday, Chakraborty condemned the harassment and apologized on behalf of the Mahila Congress.
The incident took place on January 26 when Paritosh Pal, a teacher at Hari Radha Vidyamandir in Hadrai under Teliamura Subdivision was escorting two female students home by train.
In was learnt that several Congress women leaders questioned the teacher for not carrying a permission letter for the students’ leave from their hostel and handed him over to the police despite his clarifications. He was later released after the students’ guardians arrived.
On Monday, students of the school protested by boycotting classes, demanding justice for their teacher. Paritosh Pal also filed a complaint with the Railway Police against the Congress leaders involved.
Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty condemned the incident and urged the teacher to consider it a misunderstanding caused by suspicion.
He clarified that the State Mahila Congress president and district president were not involved and termed the linking of their names in the media as a possible conspiracy.
Mahila Congress president Sarbani Ghosh Chakraborty expressed regret over the incident and clarified that she learned about it from media reports.
