Kailashahar, Jan 08: Following a confrontation between BSF personnel and Bangladeshi nationals at the India-Bangladesh border in Maguruli, Kailashahar MLA Birajit Sinha visited the area on Wednesday. The MLA began his visit at the Maguruli Border Outpost (BOP), where he met with jawans from the 199th Battalion of the BSF to gather details about the incident.
Sinha strongly criticized the actions of the Bangladeshi nationals, calling their attack on BSF personnel and attempt to seize firearms unjustifiable. The MLA alleged that such incidents were linked to recent anti-India activities, including provocative slogans and actions from across the border. The clash occurred near Pillar No. 47 of the international border, where tensions have reportedly been escalating.
The MLA emphasized the urgent need for repairs to the border fencing in Maguruli and other areas across the state. He pointed out that funds allocated for such repairs were insufficient and urged senior state police officials to inspect the border areas to identify weak or damaged sections of the fencing. Sinha stressed that a robust fence is essential to curb smuggling and ensure border security.
Sinha also proposed government-led employment initiatives for Maguruli residents involved in smuggling, suggesting that alternative livelihoods could deter illegal activities. Praising the efforts of the BSF personnel at Maguruli BOP, Sinha called for stronger measures to maintain border security. However, the situation in the area remains tense, with local residents on edge following the incident.
