Dharmanagar Sept 03: Aiming to create a Drug-free society, the Dharmanagar police arrested three associates of known brown sugar trader Helal Ahmed.
Vigilant locals apprehended five drug peddlers from the front of Sonaro Basha SB School on Monday night. While two suspects managed to escape, three were successfully handed over to the police.
According to reports, Helal Ahmed, a resident of Bhagyapur, had previously been arrested with two packets of brown sugar and had recently completed a three-month imprisonment. Despite his recent release, Ahmed allegedly resumed his drug trade, attracting numerous visitors to his residence each night.
Local residents, frustrated by the ongoing drug activities, had previously confronted Ahmed’s family, receiving assurances from his mother that the illegal activities would cease. However, the drug trade reportedly continued, prompting the community to take action.
