Agartala Nov 10: TIPRA Motha, a coalition partner of the ruling BJP- led government has decided to place mass deputation to the Governor, pressing for several demands in interest of the indigenous population including implementation of 125th Constitution Amendment Bill.
Party supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarman announced the agitation program during a press conference, held at a private hotel in Agartala on Sunday.
He stated that on November 14, deputations will be peacefully submitted to the governor across the state. Block-level activists of TIPRA Motha will submit these deputations through Sub Divisional Magistrates or District Magistrates.
Debbarman emphasized that they have been fighting for these demands for a long time and have decided to press for it again in the interest of the people.
He pointed out that the Chief Minister does not have the power to meet the demand of implementation of 125th ammendment as only Parliament can pass the bill. He expressed concern over the delay in passing the bill, despite the agreement of all political party leaders over the same.
Debbarman asserted that he has not deviated from his previous demands and insisted that 90 percent of the demands should be met by the central government, even if 10 percent remain unfulfilled.
He reiterated that the Tiprasa accord signed with the central government will be implemented at the earliest and warned that the agitation will continue until the demands are met.
Debbarman clarified that this fight is not against any political party or group but is aimed at the development of the people in the TTAADC reas.
He urged the central government to consider these long-standing demands seriously, emphasizing that this is not a political fight.
Debbarman also mentioned that no final decision has been made regarding an alliance with the BJP in the upcoming village committee elections.
It is noteworthy that Pradyot Kishore Debbarman has been advocating for Greater Tipraland, reserving 26 out of 60 seats in the State Legislative Assembly for the tribals, among other demands.
TTAADC Chairman Jagdish Debbarma among others were also present at the press conference.
