Agartala, June 23: As the by-elections to the four assembly constituencies of the state ended on Thursday evening with the ruling BJP party claiming of peaceful election, the opposition Trinamool Congress party blamed the leaders and councilors of the BJP party of instigating terror-tactics infront of the polling booths during the time of polling.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday evening the TMC leader and Tripura in-charge Rajib Banerjee alleged of large scale poll violence in the four assembly constituencies and said that at least 144 complaints had been lodged with the election commission so far based on the reporters from the four assembly constituencies of Agartala, Town Bordowali, Surma and Jubarajnagar.
“This is very unfortunate that even the assembly constituency of the Chief Minister was not spared where the miscreants turned out in huge numbers to disturb the entire polling process,” he alleged.
He alleged, “Our polling agents were also attacked during the polling, as they were restricted from entering into the polling booths. Even their way towards the polling booths were restricted and unfortunately the BJP hooligans discovered an attack on our polling agents at Surma on Wednesday night – a day before the poll.”
“A large section of people was restricted from entering into the polling booths to cast their vote, but what we noticed is that this time the voters had fought back against the BJP’s hooliganisme during the polling and casted their vote,” he stated.
The TMC leader said, “If the BJP terms this election as a semi-final, then we believe that the BJP and its hooligans will not be able to even participate in the final.”
