Agartala Sep 30: The 12-hour strike in the areas under the TTAADC called by the TIPRA Motha Party (TMP) on Saturday was passed off peacefully barring a couple of minor incidents including vandalizing an Agartala bound Ambulance and recovery of crude bombs in Barmura area.
Since morning, TMP supporters assembled at different places in the TTAADC and started picketing in support of the Bandh. To enforce the bandh, TMP supporters blocked the Assam-Agartala National Highway and roads in the sub-divisions. This restricted vehicular movements. Even as, the Bandh was total in remote and hill areas, however, in the plain areas shops, schools and government offices remained open in many places.
Our Teliamura correspondent adds: TMP supporters blocked the NH at the Chandra Sadhu Para in Barmura and Mungiyakami areas affecting the vehicular movements along the NH. Besides, TMP supporters also started picketing at the Mungiyakami Rail Station stalling the train services.
Amidst the presence of MLAs, TTAADC chairman Jagadish Debbarma, Ems and TMP leaders, supporters burnt tyres and raised slogans in favour of ‘Greater Tipraland’. Even as ex-Chairman of the Party, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma while announcing the Bandh kept ambulance and other essential services out of the ambit of the bandh, agitating TMP activists in Barmura vandalized several vehicles including an ambulance.
Besides, during the bandh in Baramura, one crude bomb went off in the area adjacent to the TMP gathering place. The loud explosion created panic and a tense situation prevailed at the scene. A large police force led by Jirania SDPO Himadri Prasad Das rushed to the spot and recovered another crude bomb from the place. Immediately the situation took a turn for the worse and TMP supporters became agitated and vandalized several cars. Meanwhile, more security forces rushed to the spot.
Our Amarpur correspondent adds: In Amarpur, the supporters blocked Amarpur-Natun Bazar via Gandacherra road at Thalcherra Bazar since the morning.
Our Charilam correspondent adds: In order to make the 12-hour bandh, the MLAs and supporters of the Tipra Motha party sat on the road blockades on the National Highway at Dewan Bazar in Bishranganj and Raja Chowmuhani in Taxsapara Raja Chowmuhani on Saturday morning.
Our Udaipur correspondent adds: As part of the 12-hour bandh, the supporters of the Tipra Motha party blocked the road at Dewan Bazar area in Killa under Gomati district since Saturday morning.
As a result of the bandh, many offices including schools remained closed in Killa on Saturday.
In other ADC areas including Gandachhera, Ambassa and Ampi Nagar, TMP supporters held demonstrations and blocked roads.
