Agartala, Mar 28. Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Friday flagged off speed boats for different tourist destinations in a simple function held at Ujjayanta Palace, Agartala.
Speaking to media persons on the occasion, Chowdhury said, “Tripura government has taken a significant step to promote water tourism in the state, aiming to elevate Tripura’s presence on the national tourism map. Given the wide acceptance and the potential of water-based attractions, the government has introduced various water sports activities, speed boats, and traditional shikara rides across several water bodies.”
The Minister officially inaugurated two 20-seater speed boats and six shikaras in a ceremony held at the premises of the Ujjayanta Palace. The newly introduced speed boats will operate at the Chabimura, a premier tourist destination known for its ancient rock carvings along the Gomati River. Meanwhile, the shikaras will be available for tourists at prominent sites including the Lakshminarayan Bari Dighi, Rudrasagar Lake, and Narikelkunj.
“In the coming days, we plan to procure 50 additional boats to enhance water tourism and offer tourists a unique experience," he said.
The event commenced with a welcome speech by Prashant Badal Negi, the Director of the Tourism Department. Various officials from the department were also present to witness the launch.
“With the introduction of these water tourism services, the government expects to attract more domestic and international tourists, further contributing to the state's economic growth,” he added.
