In a tragic incident, three workers died and another youth fell ill due to asphyxia in a septic tank at Sabroom, the southernmost part of Tripura, on Wednesday.

The three deceased are- Sahidul Islam (21), Abu Kalem Sheikh (20), both from Dhubri district of Assam, and Bhajan Singh (45), a local worker.

A group of workers was engaged in building construction works at the house Sunil Dey in Damdama Panchayat area.

Sahidul among the workers first entered the septic tank of the house for taking out timber for centering. Suddenly, he fell unconscious. After noticing the incident, when Abu entered the septic tank to save Sahidul he also became senseless. Similarly, Bhajan also suffered asphyxia in the septic tank.

Lastly, Suman Dey, son of the house owner, tried to save all the three workers but he also fell ill.

When the Fire Service personnel took all the four persons to Sabroom hospital, the attending medical officer declared the three workers brought dead. The health condition of the other youth is stated to be stable.

Soon after receiving information on the incident, the SDM and SDPO of Sabroom visited the place of occurrence.
