Agartala, Aug 22: All trains except the Agartala- Sabroom DEMU local have resumed operations, Transport Secretary C.K. Jamatia said on Wednesday.
Speaking to the media, he said, the work is progressing rapidly to restore the Agartala-Sabroom railway service, and it is expected to be operational within the next couple of days.
The secretary said, the Transport department has been making continuous efforts to restore normalcy in air, road, and railway services that were affected by the heavy rainfall, landslides and floods. All local and special train services were disrupted in the state from August 21 to 2 pm of August 22.
He said, the railway tracks between Santirbazar and Garjee have been damaged at three to four locations. The railway engineers have taken initiative to repair the damages, and the Transport secretary expressed hope that the works would be completed very soon.
Additionally, the Transport secretary informed that regular freight rakes carrying essential commodities are arriving at Dharmanagar, Kumarghat, and Jirania railway stations. There is no reason for unnecessary panic, as the state has adequate stock of essential goods and fuel.
Due to bad weather, an Indigo ATR 72 flight from Kolkata to Agartala was unable to land in Agartala airport on August 21 while all flight services remained unchanged, with 30 flights operating daily from Agartala Airport.
He also mentioned that 50 flood-affected families have taken shelter at Udaipur railway station. Since August 22, the local administration and station authorities have been providing them with necessary relief materials.
Similarly, 30 flood-affected families had taken shelter at Jolaibari railway station. Additional Secretary of the Transport department Surat Choudhury was also present at the press conference.
