Agartala, Feb 05: Congress and CPM suffered a major setback at Tripura's Sonamura sub-division where more than 800 voters of the two political parties joined the saffron camp on Monday.
State president of the ruling BJP Rajib Bhattacharjee welcomed the newcomers in presence of other local leaders. The joining is being considered as a major boost for the BJP in Sepahijala district ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
Bhattacharjee said he is confident of the BJP’s victory in the upcoming assembly polls. He said, the countrymen don’t believe the Congress party and communists; they already realized that development of the country is possible only under the BJP-led government.
Speaking at the joining programme, Bhattacharjee said, a section of people had carried out a malicious campaign against BJP after the party formed the government in the state for the first time in 2018. Particularly, there was a deliberate attempt to misguide the minority people. But, they could realize the truth after the BJP-led government started its development works across the state.
He also commented that the BJP-led government had provided jobs to the minority people in record numbers over the past six years.
Minority morcha state president and former minister Billal Miah, Sonamura mandal president Biswajit Das and several other local BJP leaders and Karyakartas were present in the joining programme, where a total of 817 Congress and CPM voters from 213 families joined the BJP.
