Tripura By-polls: 16 arrested under preventive sections

Agartala, June 24: Tripura Police on Friday said that 16 persons were arrested for their involvement in attempts of electoral malpractice during voting on Thursday.
Tripura Police in a press release said no complaint was lodged by any Presiding Officer or Returning Officer so far. Some incidents of atrocities on aged persons and media people by political rowdies have been noticed in social media but no complaint has been received by police from anyone, the release said.
According to Tripura Police, no report of violence or intimidation has been received after the voting while police patrolling and mobiles are continuing for maintenance of peace and tranquillity.
While congratulating the electorates of the four constituencies- Agartala, Town Bordowali, Surma and Jubarajnagar for assisting police in maintaining law and order during the voting,
Meanwhile, Tripura Police assured that stern action would be taken against the culprit(s) involved in attacking a voter- Samir Roy of Kunjaban, who is a policeman, with paper cutter.
“In one incident under NCC PS, in the morning of 23/06/2022 at around 09:00 AM one voter namely Samir Saha S/O Lt. Santi Rn. Saha of Kunjaban Colony was stopped by 04 miscreants at Old Matrimangal road, Kunjaban Colony while he was going from his house to exercise his franchise and one of the miscreant inflicted injuries on him by a paper cutter in failure to prevent him by threatening. He sustained injuries on his abdomen and right hand elbow and presently undergoing treatment at AGMC and GBP hospital Trauma centre. He is police person who was on leave. A specific case has been registered and stern action will be taken against the miscreants after identification [sic]”, the police press release said.
